Temporary Phone Number Still Showing After Port In

Symptoms

  • Temporary number assigned at activation still shows on outbound calls/texts

Environment

Resolution

  1. Clear the cache and data of the Google Messages app
  2. Delete any text threads where this is an issue and start a new conversation with that contact

Additional Notes

Similar symptoms could belie an unrelated issue, in that the underlying routing number used to facilitate calls and text on the cell network shows up on outbound calls/texts, as opposed to the "real" (but temporary) phone number that got assigned at activation. In this case, please see:
