Republic Anywhere Won't Open in Linux

Symptoms

  • Clicking the Anywhere icon doesn’t start the program

  • Running Anywhere from the terminal results in error:

    • " republicanywhere: error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory."

Environment

  • Republic Anywhere

  • Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon

Resolution

Cause

Shared libraries package "libgconf-2.so.4" is missing on some versions of Linux. Installing "gconf2" provides the shared library package needed for Anywhere to run.
