For a Warranty Replacement, How Does My Data Get Erased If I Can't Factory Reset the Phone?

Environment

  • Warranty replacement
  • Phone will not power on or cannot be otherwise factory reset due to the issue for which it is being replaced

Answer

We partner with a third-party firm who wipes the data from all phones sent to us when the issue for which a phone is replaced prevents a factory reset. For those that cannot be wiped via their advanced process, the hard drives are sent for data removal/destruction.

Additional Notes

IMPORTANT: If the phone can be factory reset through the Settings menu, it must be factory reset through the Settings menu before the phone is sent back, otherwise you will be charged the full purchase price of the phone. For more information on the factory reset procedure, please see this link.
