Moto G Power and Moto G Stylus WiFi Calls Drop

  • WiFi calls are dropped
    • Users may see an error message on the screen indicating that "Another Application is currently using the microphone"
    • The phone may ring as if the other party had called back, however the other party did not experience the call drop and did not call back

  • Moto G Power
  • Moto G Stylus
  • WiFi calls
  • Calls handing over from cell to WiFi

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap Apps & notifications
  3. Tap See all apps
  4. Tap Google
  5. Tap Permissions
  6. Tap Microphone and select Deny

There is an app conflict created when the Google App does not release its claim to the microphone when it is no longer in use. While we await a permanent fix from the phone manufacturer, the steps above will alleviate the issue.

Additional Notes:

Denying the microphone permission for the Google App will disable the following functions:

  • Google Assistant ("Hey Google")
  • Google Voice Search (including use of the microphone in the search bar in the Chrome browser)
  • Google Sound Search
