Is It Okay to Swap SIM Cards Between Phones?

It depends...on the type of SIM card you have! How to tell if your Phone is Active on GSM or CDMA

For GSM SIM cards on Republic Wireless:

  • You should be fine to swap an active SIM card between phones (e.g. if you upgrade your phone you can take the GSM SIM card from your old phone and move it to the new phone - just be sure to sign in to your same account and choose your phone number instead of a new line!) You also need to check that both phones use the same size SIM card. The Nano and Micro sizes are not interchangeable. However, if you have a Micro-sized GSM SIM card and you need a Nano-sized GSM SIM card you can pop out the Nano-sized SIM from the Micro SIM card. You can find out the size by checking the tech specs of each phone or you can check in the article Installing Your SIM Card

For CDMA SIM cards on Republic Wireless:

It is not recommended to swap SIM cards between phones. SIM cards may not be compatible with other model phones or can systematically be tied to a specific phone.
