How to Add a Keyboard for a Different Language on a Moto E4

Objective

  • Add a language to your keyboard on a Moto E4

Environment

  • Moto E4 on Android Nougat 7.1.1

Procedure

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display your apps and tap Settings
  2. Tap Languages & input
  3. Tap Virtual Keyboard
  4. Tap Gboard
  5. Tap Languages
  6. Tap ADD KEYBOARD at the bottom 
  7. Tap the language you want to use
  8. Tap ADD in the bottom right

If you need to use Indic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Pinyin or Chinese Zhuyin:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display your apps tap on Settings
  2. Tap Languages & input
  3. Tap Virtual Keyboard
  4. Tap Manage keyboards
  5. Tap the language you need. The switch to the right of the name will be to the right and highlighted blue if you successfully turned it on

Once you've enabled the language/s you need, tap and hold the globe icon on your keyboard next to the spacebar to bring up the menu for selecting a language

Additional Notes

When following the second set of instructions, enabling one of the listed languages will also automatically enable multilingual typing with the Gboard. We recommend leaving this feature on so you can easily switch between your keyboards as needed.
