How to Block Calls/Numbers on Phones with Android Nougat 7.0 or Higher

Objective

  • To send calls straight to voicemail

Environment

Procedure

If you received a call from the number:

  1. Open your Phone app
  2. Go to Call History
  3. Tap the specific number you want to block
  4. Tap Call Details
  5. Tap Block number
  6. Tap BLOCK on the prompt that appears

If you want to add a number to your blocked list:

  1. Open your Phone app
  2. Tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Blocked numbers
  5. Tap ADD A NUMBER
  6. Enter the number you want blocked 
  7. Tap BLOCK

If you wish to send a contact to voicemail:

  1. Open your Contacts
  2. Tap the contact you wish to block
  3. Tap the Pencil Icon
  4. Tap the Three dots
  5. Tap All calls to Voicemail
  6. Tap the Check mark

Additional Notes

  • This will not block calls entirely, rather send them directly to voicemail
  • For Android 7.0 a voicemail notification will appear and the message can be accessed
  • For Android 8.0 a missed call will display, but there is no indication of left voicemails
