Symptoms
When sending a gif using Gboard on the default Messaging application and clicking the emoji icon you will receive the error "This text field does not support insertion from the keyboard."

Additional Notes
As Google updates their services, discontinued applications are not updated to support these new features. The Messages application is one of these apps.
