What Is Cellular Data?

Environment

Answer

Cellular data is how a smartphone accesses the internet when it is not connected to WiFi. Some activities such as streaming video use more cell data than others. Activities that do not use up as much data would be things like checking and sending text-based emails, browsing articles on the web and using turn-by-turn navigation.

Additional Notes

Republic Wireless 3.0 phones require cell data to be enabled to ensure that text messages are routed properly.  Cellular data is also used to set up calls when it is available.  For these reasons, we do not encourage disabling cellular data on these phones.

Republic Wireless does not charge for data used towards calls and text messages.
