Why Are My Pictures Compressed or Smaller Than the Original When Texting?

Environment

Answer

All MMS messaging regardless of the carrier or app used to send the message will cause some amount of compression. To retain the full quality of an image during transfer, it is recommended to send via e-mail or some other application that does not cause MMS compression.

Additional Notes

  • The amount of compression is dependent on both the carrier and the messaging app that are in use.
  • Compression for messages sent between Republic and another off-network carrier is higher than messages sent from Republic to Republic.
  • Compression caused by the Android Messages app is higher than compression caused by some other applications. This is working as intended.
