Data Purchases

One of the ways we've helped keep prices low with our Republic Wireless 1.0 Plan was cellular data management and staying WiFi-first. With that history, we've developed cellular data buckets, eligible for Republic Refund™ program, to help you purchase the cellular data you want, use what you need and get credited for what you don't. Dollar for dollar, fair is fair.

One Time Cellular Data Purchase

One time cellular data purchases:

  • Available in .5 GB, 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB buckets.
  • Take effect immediately.
  • Cannot be used after your next bill cycle date.
  • Can only be purchased by an account owner.
  • Are eligible for our Republic Refund™ program.
  • You'll need to have access to a data connection, either a cell or WiFi network, when adding one time cell data purchases, even if you've run out of cell data.

About The Republic Refund™

  • The Republic Refund™ is our way of ensuring that you only pay for the cellular data that you use and get paid back for what you don't.
  • Dollar for Dollar. Fair is fair.

Detail Images

  Here's How it Works
86.jpg

Let's say you choose the $25 plan that includes 1 GB of cellular data.

Your $25 plan breaks down to:

  • $10 for Unlimited Talk & Text and Unlimited WiFi data

plus

  • $15 for 1 GB of cellular data

During your monthly bill cycle, you only use 0.5 GB of cellular data.

Half of $15 is $7.50, so instead of you paying $25 on your next bill cycle date, we'll subtract $7.50 and only charge you $17.50.

FAQ

Plans

Do I have to switch to the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 or will there be a grandfather period?

While we’re extremely excited about the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 and the feedback we’ve received so far, we understand that sometimes these decisions can take time. With that in mind, we're finding a way to make the best of both worlds work.

Can I switch back to my original plan if I change my mind about the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

Yes, you can switch - but only once. If your mobile phone service is eligible, you'll be able to switch back to the Republic Wireless Plan 1.0 one time. After you switch back to Republic Wireless Plan 2.0 for the second time, you will stay on the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0.

I have a DEFY XT and a Beta service plan, how does the Republic Wireless Plan 2.0 impact my service?

While the DEFY XT is still a popular option among a lot of our members it, unfortunately, does not have the device specifications needed to transition to the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 or the Republic Wireless Plans 1.0. So, you will stay on your Beta plan during these changes. For more information, check out the Motorola DEFY XT Overview.

If I buy a new phone, can I pick the Republic Wireless Plans 1.0?
All new 3.0 phones require our My Choice plans.
For our legacy phones,  Moto E (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G (1st and 3rd Gen), and Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen) the following plan options apply:

      • All new service lines activated with a legacy phone will start on the Republic Wireless 2.0 plan.
      • If you replace a phone that was on the Republic Wireless 1.0 Plan, you can activate your legacy phone with the same plan.
      • If you replace a DEFY XT, you will default to the Republic Wireless Plans 1.0, but you can then change it to the 2.0 plans (keep in mind that the transition to the 2.0 plans won't go into effect until your next bill cycle date).
      • If you are reactivating a legacy phone as a new line or starting a canceled line back up with a legacy phone, the Republic Wireless 2.0 plan will be applied.

Will my current data usage migrate to the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 or will I start fresh with zero data?

Since you'll be transitioning on your normal bill cycle date, you will start fresh with zero data used.

How do I find my past data usage?

If you’re already a Republic Wireless member, you can also find your data usage on the Republic Wireless app under the cellular data tab.  If your usage varies: check both your heavy-use months against your lighter-use months to get a good average, as the chart below shows:

 87.jpg

If you’re not currently a Republic Wireless member, you can check your cellular data usage history on your latest invoice with your current provider.

Is Republic Wireless system data counted against my data usage?

No. Republic Wireless system data isn’t counted against your cellular data usage.

Republic Wireless system data includes:

      • Voice data
      • MMS data
      • SMS data
      • Republic Wireless app data
      • Republic Wireless notifications

Can I still use roaming cellular data on the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

Yes. When you're in a roaming area, it will come out of your overall cellular data amount. Keep in mind that roaming cellular data is applied towards your cellular data amount at a faster pace (1 MB of roaming cellular data equals 18.3 MB of native cellular data). With the new version of the app, we've added notifications to let you know when you're in a roaming area and the ability to turn roaming cellular data completely off. Roaming cellular data is turned off by default in the app for Republic Wireless Plans 2.0.

How does 3G and 4G work with the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

If your phone is 4G LTE capable and you’re in a 4G area, your phone will automatically connect to the 4G network. Otherwise, you’ll connect to the 3G network.

Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 include 4G LTE connections in 4G LTE areas with compatible devices at no additional cost per gigabyte.

Do you allow tethering?

Yes. In order for tethering to work, there are a few requirements that must be met:

1. You'll need Lollipop 5.0 or higher on your phone.

2. You'll need to be on our Republic Wireless Plans 2.0: Republic Refund™ plans.

3. You'll need to be on Republic Wireless app version 2.1 or higher.

Billing

What is this going to cost me?

You will not be charged to transition to the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0. With the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0, you pay for the cellular data that you use and get paid back for what you don’t. Plans start at $5 (Wifi Only). The $10 Base Plan gives you WiFi talk, text, and data and cellular talk and text. On top of the $10 Base Plan, you can purchase cellular data starting at $7.50 per ½ GB or $15 per 1 GB.

How do I know if I bought enough cellular data?

To get an idea of the amount of cellular data you should purchase, take a look at your past month's cellular data usage. If you need additional cellular data, you can purchase more at any time, right from your phone.  data usage history in app.

What happens if I don’t use all my cellular data? Will I receive a credit or a refund for any unused cellular data?

You will receive a credit on your account for any unused cellular data This will automatically be applied to your next month's bill. If you have an additional credit balance after we have applied your Republic Refund™ to your next month's bill, you will receive the remaining credit as a refund to the credit card we have on file. If the credit card we have on file for you has been changed or expired, we'll mail you a check.

How is my Republic Refund™ calculated?

Your Republic Refund™ is calculated by finding the amount of cellular data that you did not use for the month and dividing it by 1024. 1024 is the amount of MB in 1 GB. Take that number and multiply it by $15 (the amount you paid for the 1GB of cellular data). Alright, so that’s a lot of words here’s the formula:

MB Unused / 1024 MB x $15 = Your Republic Refund™!

Let’s say you’re on the $10.00 Base Plan but know you’re taking a trip and you buy some data as a cushion for when you’re not near WiFi. You decide to get 1 GB of data for $15.00 as a one-time data purchase eligible for a Republic Refund™

1 GB ($15.00) of cellular data (1 GB = 1024 MB) for your bill cycle

But! You end up only using 450 MB.

That means 1024 MB Purchased - 450 MB Used = 574 MB Unused

574 MB Unused /1024 MB = 0.56 GB

0.56 GB X $15.00 = $8.40 for your Republic Refund™

Since your bill is normally $10.00 a month, you can now credit that $8.40 and only pay $1.60 for your upcoming bill cycle. If your Republic Refund™ is greater than your normal bill cycle, your billing credit card will be refunded that difference.

Will my bill cycle date change if I switch to Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

Nope! Your bill cycle date will remain the same as always. When you schedule your transition to the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0, you’ll be transitioned over on your normal bill cycle date.

When is my bill cycle date?

      • On your phone:
        1. Tap Apps.
        2. Tap Republic.
        3. On the Your Phone Info tab, look under your phone number and current service plan. It will say Next bill date:

Do I still get two plan changes per bill cycle?

The way that the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0 is structured, plan changes don't go into effect until your next bill cycle date, unless you are upgrading from the $5 plan. When you upgrade from the $5 plan to the Base Plan the change will take effect immediately. If you need more cellular data during your current bill cycle, you can add a one-time cellular data purchase of .5 GB, 1 GB, 2 GB or 3 GB.

How are taxes calculated for the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

You can find tax information here.

If I have the 10% Beta discount, will I be able to keep that on the Republic Wireless Plans 2.0?

You sure can! Your 10% Beta discount will be applied to your monthly recurring charge and to one-time cellular data purchases as well.

What is cellular data usage rounded to for purposes of Republic Refund™?

With Republic Refund™, we feel fair is fair. We don’t round your cellular data up (or down) and you’ll be credited for every Byte you don’t use. Specifically, we first count the unused data for the month (to the byte, no rounding) and multiply that by the price per byte. The final credit is rounded to the nearest penny. Buy the cellular data you need and get refunded for what you don’t use.

Is Republic Wireless system data counted against my data usage?

No. Republic Wireless system data isn’t counted against your cellular data usage.

WiFi

Do I have to be connected to WiFi if I need to purchase more cellular data?

No. If you run out of cellular data and you need to add more, you can do so even if you’re not connected to WiFi.
