Freeing Up Space on the DEFY XT

  For DEFY XT Users

Are you a phone user who needs Pandora, Spotify, and Slacker installed to make sure you have optimum tunes at all times? Or maybe you have several different banking apps, all taking up their own chunk of storage space? If you're frustrated by low space errors on your DEFY XT, there are several things you can do to free up some space.

Turn off automatic app updates

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under Auto Update Apps, select Do not auto-update apps.

Move apps to your phone's SD card

If you've installed apps that didn't come standard with the DEFY XT, moving them to the SD card can help free up space.

Note: Pre-installed apps cannot be moved to the SD card.

To move apps to the SD card:

  1. Tap DEFY_icon_menu.pngMenu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
  2. Tap the All tab at the top of the screen.
  3. For each app listed, select Move to SD card if available.

To check which apps you've moved to the SD card:

  1. Tap DEFY_icon_menu.pngMenu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
  2. Tap the On SD card tab at the top of the screen to see a list of apps stored on the SD card.

Uninstall unused apps and updates

Removing apps that you no longer use or uninstalling updates to rarely-used apps can free up space on your phone.

To remove apps:

  1. Tap DEFY_icon_menu.png Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
  2. Go to the All tab.
  3. For each app you'd like to uninstall, select the app and click Uninstall.

Certain apps won't allow you to uninstall. For these apps, you can choose to uninstall updates:

  1. Tap DEFY_icon_menu.png Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
  2. Go to the All tab.
  3. Select the app you'd like to uninstall updates for, and choose Uninstall updates.
