Apps

This document is intended for Moto E (1st and 2nd Gen.), Moto G (1st and 3rd Gen.), and Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen.) users

Apps from Google Play

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Tap the Play Store icon at the top right of the screen or select Google Play from the Apps list.
  3. Browse and select apps.
  4. Tap Install and accept the terms to download the app. 

After you install an app, a shortcut will appear on the home screen and in the Apps list. 

Apps from other sources 

  1. Tap Apps
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Under Personal, select Security.
  4. Under Device Administration, check the box labeled Unknown Sources to allow installation of apps from unknown sources. 

After you install an app, a shortcut will appear on the home screen and in the Apps list.


Manage apps 

View app info 

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Press and drag an app icon to App Info at the top of the screen.
  3. On the info page for that app, you can disable or uninstall the app, force stop, clear data, or clear the app’s cache. 

Note: Preinstalled apps can be disabled, but not removed. For a list of preinstalled apps, visit the link for your phone below:

Check for app updates 

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Select the Play Store icon at the top right of the screen or select Google Play from the Apps list.
  3. Tap the Play Store icon at the top left. From menu that appears, select My apps.
  4. If updates are available, any apps that can be updated will be listed at the top.
  5. Click an app to update or if more than one app has updates available, tap the Update All button to install any available updates. 

You can also choose to have apps automatically install updates: 

  1. In the Play Store, tap Menu at the top right of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under General, tap Auto-update apps and choose to update apps at any time or over WiFi only. 

Remove apps

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Select the Play Store icon at the top right of the screen or select Google Play from the Apps list.
  3. Tap the Play Store icon at the top left. From menu that appears, select My apps.
  4. Select the app you’d like remove.
  5. Tap Uninstall and tap OK to confirm. 

OR 

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Press and drag an app icon to App Info at the top of the screen.
  3. On the info page for that app, select Uninstall
