How to Confirm Basic Network Settings for Motorola Phones on Android KitKat

This document is intended for Moto E (1st Gen.), Moto G (1st Gen.), and Moto X (1st Gen.) users

If your phone is currently running on Lollipop, you can find the instructions for checking your network settings here: Check Network Settings

If you're experiencing issues with network or roaming availability, make sure your network settings are correct.  There are two locations where you should check these settings, which include the Android settings and the Republic application.

Using Android Settings

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, tap Data Usage.
  4. Ensure Mobile data is ON.
  5. Tap the Menu icon at the top right of the screen.
  6. Ensure Data roaming is checked.
  7. Ensure that Restrict background data isn't checked.

Using the Republic application

  • Tap Apps.
  • Tap Republic.
  • Tap the Settings Settings.png icon at the top right of the screen.
  • Tap Cell data settings CellDataSettings.JPG.
  • Ensure that Cellular data is enabled.
  • Ensure that Roaming data is enabled* if you need to use roaming data. (Note that Roaming data doesn't need to be enabled in order for Republic calling, SMS/MMS and voicemail to work.)

Additional information regarding cellular data within the Republic application can be found here

*Roaming data is disabled by default. Please note that your phone calculates roaming data at a higher rate than on-network cellular data (consuming it faster) due to roaming data being more expensive

A specific application, such as Chrome, isn't working for data

The Republic application has a Data Saver feature that allows you to turn off cellular data for a specific app.  To change these settings and allow the application to use cellular data:

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Tap Republic.
  3. Tap the Cell data CellData.png icon towards the top of the screen.
  4. Under Cell Access, scroll down until you find the application listed.
  5. Ensure the cell access for the application is enabled (slider should be to the right).

Additional app settings for cellular data can be found here.
